Retirement Concerns
by: Kerry Hook
As you consider whether youre ready for retirement a growing number of concerns may spring to your mind. Sorting out the more important ones from the trivial is essential when planning your retirement.

The single biggest fear among those considering retirement is whether or not you have enough money. Unfortunately, many people are not. Sometimes, its a case of poor planning or not planning at all, but its often the case that the retirement plan was tied to the stock market or some other investment which lost considerable value.

If any of these situations apply to you, then income loss can be a serious concern which will require re-thinking your idea of retirement. Youll need to start to think of ways to replace your old income. If you start on a plan prior to your actual retirement date, then you’ll be in a much better position than those that dont.

The economy has many people learning how to live frugally, but it can be especially serious for retirees whose retirement funds are inadequate. A serious perspective on living frugally can really help those with a limited budget.

Another concern about retirement may be the idea that youll have too much time on your hands and become bored. This concern shouldnt fall into your serious category because you will find that time flies even when you are retired. In fact, if anything (and I can speak from experience here) it seems that there is never enough time in retirement!

Many people dont take their health seriously enough especially if you are currently enjoying good health. Your health should be a primary concern though so it belongs in the serious category. As a retiree, it can be easier than ever to become a couch potato and fall out of your previous exercise schedule. This is especially true if you were lucky enough during your work years to fit your exercise into your regular work day.

Keeping ones mind fit is essential as well and something that many dont worry enough about. Fortunately, its never been easier to keep your mind active and in shape. The Internet brings all kinds of information into our homes and rests at the end of our fingertips. News, blogs, free or low cost e-books and even free classes are there for the taking so there is no excuse not to keep learning new things.

By taking the right approach – sorting out the serious concerns from the trivial youll gain a feeling of control that will allow you to fearlessly approach retirement and really enjoy it!
